![]() Industrial air bag to reduce shock by 90%, giving you the smoothest ride possible |
AIRSAFE™ offers the industry’s largest selection of air hitches. Innovation and engineering insures you receive the safest and smoothest ride. “Enjoy the ride, arrive alive.”
With AIRSAFE™ you stop the flow of shock flow between the tow vehicle to the trailer and greatly reduce the explosion of energy when these two forces meet. The patented AIRSAFE™ hitches are engineered so the connection to the trailer is separated from the connection to the tow vehicle by an industrial strength airbag. The air bags sit between the steel shank plate and the steel ball mount plate which glides on high strength self lubricating Nyloil. The two plates are connected by four high strength steel tie-rods . Each steel tie rod has a 16,200 lb tow rating giving you the security of knowing these connections far exceeds the towing requirements. We then bring it all together with a five year warranty making the world’s finest engineered and most technically advanced AIRSAFE™ Receiver line.
There is another element that causes energies to collide with rigid connections. Any upward or downward motion actually shortens the overall length of the two vehicles This is where the shock factor becomes dangerous. Let’s explain by thinking about a door hinge lying flat on a table. The metal hinge represents the full distance from the front of the tow vehicle to the back of the trailer. If the tow vehicle drives over a bump it forces the rear of the vehicle upward bringing the vehicles closer together. Since metal does not stretch, the two parts of the hinge are at their longest when flat. Once you lift up on the hinge the two ends start coming towards each other and the distance from end to end id shortened. When we then go back downward the two start to lengthen until they are at their longest point when in the level position.
The same is true with a truck pulling a trailer. When the tongue is parallel with the ground the two are at their greatest length. If the truck hits a bump and drives the rear upward the two actually become shorter. If the tow vehicle weighs less than the trailer than the tow vehicle will actually pull backwards. This forward and back motion is what destroys transmissions and causes severe metal and personal fatigue. Now break that rigid connection by using our AIRSAFE™ receiver ,the results, over 90% reductions in shock transfer and a safer smoother ride.
When using an AIRSAFE™ Class V, VI, VII or VIII receiver you will do the following: Insert the AIRSAFE™ hitch into the receiver. Pin and make sure all mounts are properly tightened. Lower the trailer onto the ball. Now add air through the top stem until the steel tie rods are parallel . In this case we are using a simple hand held pump. In most cases less than 60 psi will be necessary for proper inflation.
If for any reason air pressure is lost in the AIRSAFE™ products, they will simply turn into a rigid connection. We offer a life time limited warranty on our airbags. Simply call our toll free number and we will immediately send you a replacement at no charge.
Weight distribution must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Please check vehicle owner’s manual for correct application. In some of the video scenes or other support material we have forgone the use of the weight distribution system for demonstration purposes only.
Please take a moment to watch the video on line or order our DVD from directly from AIRSAFE HITCH. In our video we took 32 foot toy hauler over three sets of rail road tracks. When the rear of the tow vehicle moves it does not force the tongue with it. This is how we eliminate shock transfer.
Ever wonder why you get so fatigued when you are pulling a trailer? Its simple, the shock from the trailer is being transferred to the vehicle and these forces collide. In the video we compare two rear view mirrors, one using a traditional rigid connection showing and the other using the patented AIRSAFE™ receiver. The rigid connection shows how shock waves are thrown in all directions inside the tow vehicle while the AIRSAFE™ vehicle shows a smooth , safe ride. We then run them it in slow motion so you can clearly see shock forces thrown in all directions with the traditional rigid connection causing loss of steering control, white knuckles and sore lower backs.
With the traditional rigid connection the tow vehicle hits potholes, dips or road heaves it throws the vehicle of its center course, in an instant you are over the bump or dip attempting to get back on course, then the trailer hits the same obstacle and transfers its forces back to you , the end results, shock energy flying In all directions.
With AIRSAFE™ hitches we reduce as much as 90% of this shock through its patented air hitch design insuring you a safe and comfortable ride. You can see and feel the difference.
AIRSAFE™ Receivers are virtually maintenance free and are the only air hitch products specifically designed to be used with weight distribution systems. Simply attach the spring and trunnion bar the same way you would on a traditional rigid connection. Then lower the tongue weight onto the ball and inflate the airbag until the steel tie rods are level. You will see it come into perfect balance. You are now driving with the regular use of weight distributed 1/3, 1/3 and 1/3.
We then take the vehicle and trailer across three sets of rail road tracks , in the video keep you eyes on the two steel tie rods. When the rear axle of the vehicle hits the rail road tracks it instantly drops into the rail bed rut, and then jumps back out of the rut which would normally transfer energy back to the trailer. But instead the shock is absorbed in the airbag and the 4 steel tie-rods quickly adjust for maximum stabilization. Because the industrial strength air bag is between the truck and vehicle connection the shock is absorbed in the airbag. We then show it in slow motion. Instead of calling it shock or G force lets look at it as electricity. When the truck hits the tracks it sends its electric current back to the trailer. But, the electrical circuit can not transfer to the trailer because the current is broken by the air bag and can not be transferred back to the trailer keeping your dishes in place, protecting electronics , greatly reducing metal fatigue and keeps your precious cargo safe. We then go back to normal speed, you will watch as trailer hits the tracks, there is virtually no shock transferred back up to the tow vehicle.
To prove the point even further we took a Chevy ½ ton pick-up and pulled a 28 foot Class B trailer. This was for demo purposes only, weight distribution must be used in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Check vehicle owner’s manual for correct application.
If you have a 2 ½” receiver than our AIRSAFE™ Class VII or Class VIII is our recommended hitch. Featuring a solid 2 ½ shank the class 7 has a rating of 25,000lb GVTW and a 2,500lb tongue weight and the Class VIII with a 30,000lb GVTW and a 3000l Tongue weight. . The Class VII and Class VIII come equipped with a custom made commercial air bag giving you extreme lifting capabilities. AIRSAFE is the only hitch manufacturer to offer this high a rating. With our Class VIII AIRSAFE™ Receiver hitch we not only feature a 2 ½” solid steel shank but also add two additional steel tie rods giving a shock towing rating of 97,200lbs!
